Circles — Terms of Service

Effective date: 10 September 2026

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

Circles is a personal relationship app operated by Carlos Puigjaner, an individual developer established in Spain (“we”, “us”). These terms are a contract between you and us covering your use of the Circles app and service.

Contact: carlospv@gmail.com

By creating an account you accept these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use Circles.

2. The service

Circles helps you stay in touch with the people who matter to you: you add your contacts, organize them into circles, set contact rhythms, log interactions, and receive AI-generated suggestions. Some features use artificial intelligence (Anthropic’s Claude) to generate suggestions and summarize your notes — how your data is handled is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

3. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, e.g. 14 in Spain).
  • Keep your credentials secure; you are responsible for activity under your account.
  • One account per person. You can delete your account at any time in Settings — deletion is immediate, permanent, and unrecoverable.

4. Your content and your responsibilities

Everything you store in Circles — contacts, notes, dates, interaction history — is your content. You keep all rights to it. You grant us only the limited license needed to store and process it to provide the service to you (including the AI features described in the Privacy Policy). We never use your content for advertising, we never sell it, and we never share it with other users.

Because your content describes real people who are not Circles users, you agree to:

  • Use Circles only for genuine personal relationship purposes — the digital equivalent of a personal address book or diary.
  • Not record data about others in ways that could harm them: no surveillance or stalking, no harassment, no dossiers on people you have no personal relationship with, no use for commercial prospecting, background checks, or profiling.
  • Avoid recording sensitive data about others (health, religion, political views, sexual orientation) unless genuinely necessary for caring for that relationship, and take special care with information about minors.
  • Comply with the laws that apply to you when recording information about other people.

We don’t read your notes. But if we become aware of use that violates this section (for example through a report from an affected person), we may suspend or terminate the account.

5. Acceptable use of the service

You agree not to:

  • Probe, breach, or test the security of the service, or access another person’s data.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or access the service by automated means outside the app.
  • Resell the service or use it to build a competing dataset.
  • Abuse the AI features (e.g., attempt to extract other users’ data or misuse generation).

6. Free use, Membership and payment

Circles is free to use. The daily practice — your circles, your people, your notes, the daily list of who to reach out to and the suggestions that come with it — does not require payment and is not time-limited.

Membership is an optional paid subscription that adds the parts of Circles that look back: the monthly story and its letter, the year in review, and the view of who you tended most and least. New accounts get these Membership features free for their first full calendar months as a taste; after that they require an active Membership.

Membership is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, yearly or monthly. On iOS, purchases are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase under Apple’s own terms: Apple is the merchant, billing and refunds follow Apple’s Media Services terms, and subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your App Store settings. The price, including any introductory price for a first period, is always shown in the App Store before you subscribe, in your local currency. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period, and your free use of Circles continues unchanged.

7. AI-generated content

Suggestions and summaries are generated by AI and are assistive text, not advice. They can be imperfect or inaccurate. You decide what to do with them; verify anything important before acting on it.

8. Availability and changes

Circles is provided by a solo developer. We work to keep it reliable (and your data is backed up as described in the Privacy Policy), but the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of uninterrupted availability. We may add, change, or remove features, and may discontinue the service with at least 30 days’ notice, during which you can export your data (see the Privacy Policy).

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data caused by factors outside our reasonable control, or the content you choose to store. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including liability arising from willful misconduct or gross negligence, or your statutory consumer rights).

10. Termination

You can stop using Circles and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these terms (especially §4 and §5), with notice where practicable. On termination your data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be notified in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Circles after that means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer in the EU, you also keep the protections of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence, and you may bring disputes before the courts of your place of residence. EU users may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform.
